National Poultry Day, on March 19th, is a perfect opportunity to learn about poultry farming, bird anatomy, and the importance of poultry in our lives. Engage your children or students with these fun and educational activities that celebrate our feathered friends.
1. What Does “Poultry” Mean?
Start the day off with a lesson on the meaning of poultry. Poultry refers to domesticated birds that are raised for their meat, eggs, or feathers. Common types of poultry include chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and quail. These birds play significant roles in agriculture, providing food and other products that are essential for human consumption and various industries.

Learn about poultry housing and construction by building a miniature chicken coop. Use materials like popsicle sticks, cardboard, or wood to construct the coop. Discuss the importance of providing a safe and comfortable environment for poultry birds. If you are homeschooling and your area allows it, consider doing research to have your own backyard chickens.
